Phumpanya Lab started in 2021 when Thanaporn Phumpanya, a software developer who had spent years working on data pipelines for regional manufacturers, began tutoring colleagues who wanted to understand machine learning without a university context. The sessions were informal — held in a rented meeting room near Naresuan Road — and almost immediately there was more demand than she could handle alone.
The lab formalised in early 2022 with a deliberate choice to stay small. Rather than expand into a large platform, the decision was to build three courses that connect naturally with one another and to keep cohort sizes low enough that each student actually receives feedback on their work.
The name comes from a combination of the founder's surname and a word she uses to describe the kind of place she wanted to create: a working environment where things are made carefully, questions are welcomed, and no one feels rushed toward a result they do not yet understand.
Today the lab employs three full-time instructors and two part-time mentors. All of them have a background in applied AI or software development, and all of them teach because they find it genuinely useful — not as a side activity to their main work.

Thanaporn Phumpanya
Eight years in data engineering before founding the lab. Teaches the Working with Data and Generative AI Projects courses with a focus on practical, applied methods.
Krit Wattanapong
Former secondary school computing teacher with a strong background in Python. Leads Programming Foundations and is known for explaining things clearly without skipping steps.
Nattaya Suksri
Manages the mentor team and coordinates student feedback across all three courses. Background in UX research and a particular interest in how people learn through making.
How We Keep the Quality Steady
Curriculum Review Cycle
Each course is reviewed every six months to ensure the tools and methods covered reflect what is actually in use in the field. Outdated content is updated or removed, not left in place.
Written Feedback on Every Task
Each submitted exercise receives a written response from a mentor — not a numerical score alone. We believe students learn more from knowing why something works or does not.
Small Cohort Sizes
Cohorts are capped to ensure each student gets meaningful attention. When a cohort is full, we open a waiting list rather than compromise on quality.
Student Data Privacy
We collect only the information needed to run your course and communicate with you. We do not share personal information with advertisers or external analytics services.
Responsible AI in the Syllabus
Ethical considerations around AI use are part of every course, not a bolt-on module. Students are encouraged to think about the people who will interact with what they build.
Ongoing Student Access
Lesson recordings stay accessible for the full duration of your course. If something did not land the first time, you can return to it without needing to ask permission.
AI Development Education for Working Adults in Thailand
Online AI development education in Thailand has grown quickly over the past few years, but much of what is available falls into two extremes: short videos that teach syntax without context, or multi-year academic programmes that assume you have time to attend classes during working hours. Phumpanya Lab occupies the middle space — structured enough to build real competency, flexible enough to fit around a job or family.
The three courses at Phumpanya Lab are designed to be taken in sequence or independently, depending on where you are starting from. Programming Foundations addresses the mechanics of writing code in a calm, step-by-step way. Working with Data bridges that foundation toward the handling and preparation of information for AI tasks. Generative AI Projects applies those skills to building applications with language and image models.
Each course is delivered as a combination of recorded lessons, written exercises, and live feedback from a mentor. The pace is intentionally unhurried — we have found that learners who move through material at a manageable speed retain significantly more than those who rush toward an outcome. This is not a school for people who want to add a credential to a résumé in two weeks. It is a school for people who want to actually understand what they are doing.
Based in Phitsanulok, we work with students across Thailand and welcome enquiries in both English and Thai. Our mentors bring backgrounds in software development, data engineering, and AI research — practical experience, not just academic knowledge.
